Woke Culture Wars Aside, Flyover Folks Remember

Heartlanders take on woke ideology during Memorial Day weekend.

Editor’s Note: From the Back Forty is Liberty Nation’s longest running and most popular weekly column. Capturing the truth each week from heartlanders in flyover states, LN gives voice to the hard-working Americans otherwise ignored by the coastal elites.

The chatter in the Heartland was a mixture of disbelief and more “I told you so” this week as conservatives ramped up the pressure on woke ideology with the June 1 kickoff to Pride Month looming on the horizon. Of course, folks in red states aren’t going to be rude or name-call anyone in the LGBTQ+ community – nor will they be held hostage and force-fed the trending lifestyle of confusing pronouns, rainbow commerce, and tantrums for attention. Some of these folks wrangle 1,200-pound critters daily – they don’t tippy-toe around those prone to emotional outbursts.

Not So Fast, Bud Light

When Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) decided to kick a beer can when it was down, it sparked a chorus of “I told you so,” complete with a headshake to drive the point home. Cruz announced mid-week that he thinks Anheuser-Busch may have violated all sorts of rules that govern beer advertising in the US. Cruz officially queried whether the “partnership with influencer Dylan Mulvaney violates the Beer Institute’s guidelines prohibiting marketing to underage individuals.” The Beer Institute has one job: support brewers. But they also have a code of conduct, which states: “Brewers should employ the perspective of the reasonable adult consumer of legal drinking age in advertising and marketing their products.”

Cruz and company did a bit of due diligence and uncovered that Mulvaney’s woke Days of Girlhood series on Tik Tok targeted preteens and younger people. Of course, a stern letter followed to Anheuser Busch and the Beer Institute that read, in part:

“First, we write to ask that the Beer Institute’s Code Compliance Review Board open an investigation to review Anheuser-Busch’s recent and ongoing marketing partnership with Dylan Mulvaney. The evidence detailed below overwhelmingly shows that Dylan Mulvaney’s audience skews significantly younger than the legal drinking age and violates the Beer Institute’s Advertising/Marketing Code and Buying Guidelines.”

“Second,” the letter continued, “we believe that Anheuser-Busch’s clear failure to exercise appropriate due diligence when selecting online influencers for its marketing efforts warrants detailed oversight by Congress.” And no one wants that; instead, secure the border and kill inflation.

Don Faulk of Columbia, SC, gave Cruz kudos for wading into the culture wars: “Ted’s right. What adult in his right mind would fall for that stupid Bud Light commercial? It caused me to switch beers like many others.” And Jamie Schlesinger from Greenville, IL, had an epiphany: “Wow, I actually never thought about that! He [Cruz] may be right. Hiring Dylan was meant to go after a new customer base. And it may have been to go after future drinkers, which, if true, is illegal.”

If You Can’t Compete, Change Your Gender

Flyover folks have witnessed this before: Men who perform poorly in their chosen sport decide to identify as female to win a trophy. Lia Thomas – the biologically male swimmer at the University of Pennsylvania who claimed to be trans-female – caused a ruckus, especially after winning the NCAA women’s swim championship in her chosen event. But another controversial subject made the news this week amidst a few chuckles and disbelief: Natalie Ryan. Biological male disc golfer Ryan made the news for being kicked out of a competition in California only to head to the opposite coast and win first place in Virginia.

Of all sports, disc golf seems like a level playing field. Competitors use a frisbee and aim toward cages on a post. Frisbees are not weighted. But the Disc Golf Pro Tour is strict about who can compete and what (bio-gender wise), for lack of a better description, and men and women must stay in their lane.

In Georgia, Robert Yetman gave the Heartlanders a good laugh when he commented: “In all fairness, the bigger problem in this particular case may be that ‘disc golf’ is actually a thing.”

Woke Culture Wars Aside, Flyover Folks Remember

Heartlanders welcomed Memorial Day weekend to honor those who kept this nation free from tyranny – despite the Biden presidency, woke culture wars, and another Great Depression seemingly around the corner. Flags were plastered across cemeteries, farm fields, small towns, rural areas, and throughout the great Red States. It proves that no matter what Bud Light, activist media types, and random sports teams are promoting, most hard-working folks remember what the Pledge of Allegiance is all about.
