Entrepreneur and Dilbert-creator Scott Adams has put forth an intriguing possibility about the election outcome. Even if President Donald Trump wins re-election, the mainstream media may attempt to undo the election by reporting that he lost. The half of the country that lives inside the media misinformation bubble may believe this, and it may instigate a period of instability and uncertainty.
The Age of Trump
Before Trump, anyone who said anything like what Adams has proposed as a possibility would be deemed a tinfoil-hat conspiracy theorist, and with good reason. But during Trump’s presidency, the mainstream media have disregarded the truth, to the point where they openly tell lies that half the country immediately recognizes as disinformation.
Russia Collusion
For three years, the media touted the Russia conspiracy theory that Trump colluded with President Vladimir Putin to rig the 2016 election. There is nothing to this crazy story, but there is now substantial evidence that the Obama administration, the Hillary Clinton campaign, and top executives at the FBI and CIA conspired to overthrow a legally elected president with a fake dossier by a suspected Russian spy.
The documents that have been released by the Department of Justice are not wacky conspiracy material but official documents of the U.S. government that show a massive conspiracy against Trump and General Michael Flynn. Under normal circumstances, this would have been the political scandal of the century. It makes Watergate look like an amateur mission by comparison.
And yet, the media successfully disappeared an attempted coup for half the population.
The Biden Laptop
Before the final presidential debate, the New York Post released explosive material from Hunter Biden’s laptop that revealed evidence of corruption in the Biden family involving Ukraine and China. Under normal circumstances, this would have dominated the headlines, but the media disappeared it. Half of the country either has never heard about the Biden laptop or believes it is “Russian disinformation.”
The Election
As crazy as it sounds, the mainstream media have already been proven to be an organized network of election interference. If they can disappear a coup, is it so crazy to imagine that they will also try to disappear a firm victory for Trump?
There is, however, one scenario in which the media may be unable to change the outcome of the election. Suppose Trump wins with historically high voter turnout, including a blowout victory in both the Electoral College and the popular vote, with massive inroads in blue states such as Colorado, New Mexico, Washington, Oregon, New York, and California. In that case, the media will be unable to undo the election.
A narrow win for Trump is perhaps the worst outcome because it will give fodder to Antifa and Black Lives Matter to storm the streets in a violent rage. They will possibly be supported by a corrupt media telling America that Trump stole the election.
Therefore, voter turnout will determine whether we will have peace or chaos in the wake of the 2020 presidential election.
