So let’s get this straight. It’s not enough to detest Donald Trump with every fiber of your being. You must now also disrespect the presidency itself. It’s your patriotic duty, don’t you know.
That’s the conclusion to be drawn from the left’s latest plague of hysteria over an entirely innocent and diplomatic statement made by Tiger Woods. After his latest round on the links, here is what the golfing legend said when asked about President Trump, with whom he has played golf and likely hung out: “He’s the president of the United States. You have to respect the office. No matter who is in the office, you may like, dislike personality or the politics, but we all must respect the office.”
Judging by the reaction to that statement from the craven, ignorant leftists at the disgraced cable channel ESPN – you know, the ones who think they’re way too important to comment on just sports and who pander shamelessly to the left-wing audience the channel evidently believes is its future – you’d think the apocalypse had arrived.
One of ESPN’s Trump-deranged white guys, Max Kellerman, declared in all his self-important arrogance that he’s “angry” about the statement, and denounced it as “thoughtless,” “a stupid thing to say” and that it “holds in contempt the intelligence of the people who hear it.” And on and on until he had sufficiently reinforced his anti-Trump bona fides.
But the pièce de résistance came from Kellerman’s partner, perpetually angry black guy Stephen A. Smith, who declared that mixed-race Tiger is now “not black,” and should heretofore be identified only by his Asian heritage. And then he descended into a lecture about checks and balances and whatever in our democratic system. Who knew ESPN was the go-to place for constitutional enlightenment?
Go ahead and watch for yourself:
Now imagine the reaction if Tiger had said something truly appalling like, say, Donald Trump is my friend. He would be pondering the relative merits of the witness protection program.
This is, of course, yet another tempest in the proverbial teapot stirred up by the addled minds of the ever-more fascistic American left. But once you finish laughing at these silly little sportscasters, consider that some leftists have actually gone as far as advocating the end of the presidency itself (presumably, we could then turn the Oval Office into a storage closet and perp-walk Trump out of there and directly into a maximum security penitentiary where he belongs).
Think I’m kidding? Consider this recent op-ed by the lovely Tina Dupuy at USA Today, featuring the following headline and subtitle:
Donald Trump broke the presidency. It’s time to get rid of the job altogether.
Donald Trump is proof that the U.S. presidency is broken and democracy is in peril. It’s time to amend the Constitution and abolish the presidency.
Knowing the 45th president is likely to be the skunk at their garden party for the next six years, some leftists have evidently concluded that if their attacks on Trump won’t result in his removal from office, then they will try confiscating his keys to the car.
The endemic problem our authors constantly face here at LN is that there’s little left to write once you simply reveal the actual words and actions of today’s leftists. Just quote what they say, show what they do, and the conclusions write themselves. Nevertheless, let’s take a shot at one (admittedly unnecessary) concluding question: Is there anything – legal or illegal, ethical or unethical, true or false – the left will not do or say to reject and overturn the will of the American people?
