Just the title of this article will have lefties in a rage, railing to no one in particular while standing in front of the microwave waiting to reheat their Thanksgiving leftovers. What exactly will have them so worked up? Military personnel stationed at the southern border have been approved to use “a show or use of force (including lethal force, where necessary)” when dealing with unruly caravan immigrants, in a decision memorandum signed by President Trump.
How could the United States of America use force on a rag-tag band of “asylum-seekers” innocently standing at the gates of the Promised Land?
Let Us Count The Ways
First of all, these aren’t just the down-trodden but a mass of humanity from all walks of life. Progressives are forever in search of the opportunity to put everyone in one giant lefty box. But conservatives know, understand and appreciate the power and meaning of the individual. Therefore, the throngs of people standing at our border aren’t a collective, but rather made up of distinctive human beings with dissimilar wants and desires. Or, as Trump-the-candidate so aptly put it:
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best … They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs, they’re bringing crime, they’re rapists, and some, I assume, are good people.”
Of course, in this case, it isn’t just Mexicans but persons from all across Central America. And we know that this horde of humanity is not only “the tired, the poor, the huddled masses, yearning to be free.”
It’s Not Just People
Point Two: Our porous border doesn’t just let people in, but drugs as well. According to an April 4 presidential memorandum, “Large quantities of fentanyl, other opioids, and other dangerous and illicit drugs are flowing across our southern border and into our country at unprecedented levels.” Along with these drugs come those who manage this dark, illegal, underbelly of violent drug activity; such nice people, these drug lords, and Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13).
Point Three: This type of immigration threatens the security of our nation. Where will these folks relocate once within our sovereign borders? Beverly Hills, Kalorama in Washington, D.C., or the Upper West Side of New York? I don’t think so. But this is why these limousine liberals clamor for open borders – because they won’t run across a single one of these migrants. It’s a longstanding political philosophy called NIMBY or “not in my backyard.”
For goodness sake, even some in Tijuana, Mexico, don’t want these folks. What does that tell you? But, but, but you know all this. Wise and thoughtful people understand that a country must protect its borders to be a sovereign nation. It must protect and defend its people and, above all, to be a civil society it must enforce the law. And that brings us to today, and the potential use of force against this Mobile Mob that is poised to force their way into our country come hell or high water. Well, if the president has his way, they could be facing one of those choices, and it probably isn’t high water.
Active-duty troops recently moved to our southern border have been given the authority to keep the peace, de-escalate the situation and use lethal force, if necessary. Violence isn’t the desire of President Trump, nor the Secretary of Defense, who reaffirmed that most troops aren’t carrying weapons.
But make no mistake, these people are entering dangerous territory – not just on land, but in a much larger battle. These illegals have pushed America to the limits. We hope and pray there is not a showdown at the border, and there is no loss of life. However, if these migrants are intent on violating American law, they will be up against a force which they are not prepared to counter. And for certain, they do not want to find out what General Mattis meant when he said, “There is ‘No Better Friend, No Worse Enemy’ than a U.S. Marine.”
