As the political clock in the US House of Representatives ticked to the magic number of 218, Republicans dusted off their trusty easels, put on their Sunday best, and promptly launched a wide-ranging investigation into the president of the United States. The GOP is targeting Joe Biden’s alleged complicity in various family business dealings detailed in that pesky laptop of his son, Hunter.
Finally.
Even a slim margin is all that is needed to wield the gavel and take over powerful committees in the House, and the GOP wasted no time in setting its agenda. As promised, Republicans announced investigations by the House Oversight and Judiciary Committees into Biden family activities, alleging their worldwide “businesses” were nothing more than pay-to-play ruses that poured millions of dollars into family coffers.
Despite a coordinated effort of high-profile refutations, the contents of the younger Biden’s laptop, which exploded onto the national scene just weeks before the 2020 election, have since been verified by numerous sources as authentic. As such, repeated denials by the president claiming he has no knowledge of his son’s nefarious activities are becoming more difficult to make stick. During the news conference, the GOP asserted – with evidence – that the president’s claim of ignorance has become almost impossible to maintain in a thorough examination of his son’s computer. Thus, the need for an investigation.
A Nov. 17 Capitol Hill presser led by Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and Jim Jordan (R-OH) began the process of connecting the dots between Hunter’s international business operations and his father. An office key for the “Big Guy” was one example demonstrating coordination between Joe and his son in various influence-peddling schemes piloted by Hunter. Why would Biden-the-elder need a key to an office if he had nothing whatsoever to do with the enterprise? Rep. Comer indicated there is much more to come, ultimately throwing the book at Joe Biden with nine counts of potential wrongdoing by the president.
Biden Family In the Eye of the Hurricane
This ongoing Biden family saga – the knowledge of which most everyone on the left was desperate to keep from the American public – became an itch that the GOP has wanted to scratch for lo these many years. But two remarkable things happened on the way to the forum: The media mostly ignored the announcement, and the Democrats appear ready for the attack and are waiting to pounce on the Republicans with a counteroffensive.

Democrat Heavyweights to the Rescue
To quote the latest media whipping boy, Elon Musk, the Fourth Estate despises it when their “oligopoly on information is disrupted.” No longer satisfied with reporting the news, the American media believes it should drive the narrative, and in so doing, they can simply cover what they so desire and ignore the rest. This is precisely what they did with the GOP announcement.
Except for Fox News, cable news outlets chose to take a pass on the live presser. This is astonishing considering the designated House chairmen plan on taking a deep dive into a host of illegal activities, including “conspiracy or defrauding the United States, wire fraud, conspiracy to commit wire fraud, tax evasion, money laundering, conspiracy to commit money laundering, violation of the Foreign Agents Act, the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act,” and – wait for it – defying the Trafficking Victims Protection Act. That’s quite a list.
It only took one act – covering up the break-in of the Democratic National Headquarters — to dispatch Richard Nixon to the political abyss.
Media Madness
Still others, notably the New York Times and Politico, chose not to report on the investigation but instead on the counteroffensive planned by Democratic strategists to (as Politico noted) investigate the investigators. So, it appears a new entity with old faces stands ready to defend the president against all domestic enemies.
David Brock, a Democratic operative who is a born-again political progressive, promptly exited high-profile positions at Media Matters for America, Media Matters Action Network, and American Bridge. Announcing in a tweet that he would be taking the helm at Facts First USA – a non-profit that is planning “a $5 million-a-year “SWAT team to counter Republican congressional investigations,” including issues that “may be too personal or delicate for the White House to be responding or to even be seen as directing a response” — an apparent reference to Hunter Biden,” is set to ratchet up a campaign against the Republican investigation according to the Times. Like many a political convert, Brock is particularly vocal in his animosity toward the GOP and as such is the perfect Rottweiler to roll out for the Democrats.
However, more than one Democratic regiment is planning to make its way to the battlefield. The other is the Congressional Integrity Project, which Politico reported as “a multimillion-dollar ‘war room’ to undermine investigations from the House.” This heavyweight leftist insider’s club, designed as a fast-response team, is chomping at the bit to take on the two House Committees investigating the president and his family.
It seems the Democrat-controlled advocacy media is in lockstep with these loyal soldiers who will take up arms in defense of their president and wage war on the GOP. However, this time Republicans are ready for the onslaught, which includes a new initiative from The Heritage Foundation called The Oversight Project. Debuting the endeavor, Heritage’s smart and savvy President Kevin Roberts intoned, “We are also launching this project to better partner with and support our friends in the conservative movement who are also charging up hills to fight the left.”
Considering the many years of investigation into President Donald Trump – an effort reconstituted afresh just this week, the swamp water in Washington is a perfect temperature for inquiry into the Biden family syndicate. While Dems signaled that they are armed to the teeth, it appears Republicans have done their reconnaissance and are ready to march onto the battlefield armed with the Hunter laptop as its howitzer. Politics has always been blood-sport in Washington, and power is the name of the game. Right now, the GOP has it and plans to put it to good use.
