Stepping Back from the Brink – CA Gov Vetoes Immigrant Bills

In a surprise move, California Gov. Jerry Brown (D) vetoed two bills aimed at giving illegal aliens more power in the state. If you blinked when reading that sentence, don’t worry; your eyes did not deceive you. The pro-illegal immigration governor took a step back and went against his Democratic brethren with a move that surely had them all gaping in confusion and astonishment.

The first bill Brown vetoed would have allowed nonresidents to serve on boards, while the second would have prevented ICE and law enforcement from making arrests inside courtrooms. While that may bring a sigh of relief to some of us, here’s the real question: How the hell did we get to the point that such laws had to be vetoed in the first place?

Vetoed… For Now

SB-174 was authored by Democrats state Sen. Ricardo Lara and Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo, who sought to make illegal immigrants equal to Americans by giving them more power. This crazy idea would have allowed nonresidents to serve on boards, be paid for their services and give them the power to make decisions on anything from education and healthcare to state laws and financial matters.

In other words, illegal aliens telling Californians how they should be running the state, raising their children, paying their bills, and everything else. Only in the Golden State would such an asinine idea gain more than an ironic chuckle after a round of alcoholic drinks.

But, despite the bill being vetoed, it’s still happening without being established as law. As Liberty Nation reported in March, nonresident Lizbeth Mateo was appointed to the California Student Opportunity and Access Program Project Grant Advisory Committee, which advises ways to increase access to college for students from underserved or low-income communities.

SB-349 is another bill that’s hard to wrap the brain around. If not vetoed, it would have prevented ICE and other law enforcement from making arrests inside courtrooms. Aside from at the crime scene during the actual deed, doesn’t a courtroom arrest seem the most apropos? Proponents of the bill tried to sweeten it up by saying the arrests caused too much interruption during proceedings, but apparently, Brown saw past that – for once – and brought out his big red VETO stamp to end the madness before it could gather much momentum.

How Did We Get Here?

California has been Ground Zero for the effort to give illegal aliens more rights than American citizens and the state is currently in the middle of a lawsuit with the federal government for obstructing ICE. Politicians are trying to pass bills that would force California residents to shoulder the burden of healthcare to the undocumented. And Moonbeam Brown himself has attacked and criticized President Trump’s illegal immigration policies. So, why the change now?

Has Brown finally come to his senses? “I believe existing law, which requires citizenship for these forms of public service, is the better path,” he said, explaining his reason for vetoing SB-174. You think?

How we as a people could even get to a point that we would put illegal aliens above our own citizens defies rational thought. The Trump Derangement Syndrome has escalated into such a frenzy that otherwise intelligent and logical people have become maddened with opposing anything the president approves – no matter how absurd. While some of the memes out there are funny, they are also frighteningly true. One of my favorite examples is a picture of Trump saying he likes fresh air, then below his picture is someone wearing a plastic bag over their head.

So, what has changed Brown’s pro-illegal immigrant stance, albeit only slightly? Maybe he’s regaining a bit of his former intelligence. In 2013 he vetoed a bill that would have allowed nonresidents to serve on a jury. At that time, he said, “Jury service, like voting, is quintessentially a prerogative and responsibility of citizenship.”

But perhaps West Covina’s councilman Mike Spence said it better when he stated, “Governance belongs to a nation’s citizens. Even Jerry Brown understands citizenship has to mean something.”
