The world reels like a drunken sailor as it careens into 2021. Americans still suffer under the pandemic punishment, lashed to government-controlled behavior by a variety of lockdown laws that left liberty marooned on some remote island. We hope the new year will mark the end of the storm – all the while terrified it will somehow get worse.
For many, the planned commission of Joe Biden as the new captain is an albatross around their necks. And like the ancient mariner, whether we the people elected Biden or simply allowed the fraud to go unanswered, we shot this bird ourselves. From the continued rise of cultural Marxism and the machinations of a complicit media to the terrifying “plan to end our gun violence epidemic” and the seemingly inevitable turn back to globalism, a Joe Biden presidency may seem destined to be the burst bulkhead that finally sinks the listing ship. Despite all this, will the fire of liberty be quenched – or are there some few sparks remaining that may flare up in the coming year?
Black Lives Matter
In the age of Trump, two resistance groups rose to prominence: Antifa and Black Lives Matter. There’s a special irony in the naming of these groups. Antifa claim to be against fascism, yet they used fascist tactics to punish those who don’t agree with them. BLM claims outrage over the fact that the system and white society don’t seem to care when a black person dies. But they only seem to care when the black victim – or, as is often the case, “victim” – is killed by a white person, preferably a cop.
In both cases, it’s clear that protecting life and liberty are not the goals of either organization. “It’s doctrine and philosophy – not lives – that matter to the BLM movement,” as Liberty Nation’s Leesa K. Donner put it: “People are expendable so long as Marxist dogma abides on the road to revolution.”
Yet good has come of even this. The radical vehemence of today’s Marxist movements and the Democratic Party has caused the left to lose the minorities upon which they rely. #WalkAway has grown over the last two years, and more black conservatives are pushing back against BLM and asking why all black lives don’t matter. As LN’s Jeff Charles pointed out more recently, exit polls from the 2020 election show that “Trump did better in 2020 with every race and gender except white men,” and that women and people of color made up almost 60% of the Trump coalition in 2020.
Media Manipulations
The anti-Trump bent of the American press runs so deep that they’re willing even to change their own positions on important issues when Trump takes the same side just so they can criticize him, pretending, of course, as if they never held the same opinion. Just take the “China Virus” scandal, for example. Many a headline ran in January and February of 2020 calling COVID-19 things like “the Chinese Coronavirus,” “the China virus,” and “the Wuhan Coronavirus.” But by March, President Trump was using these terms as well, so a reversal was required. As LN’s Mark Angelides pointed out at the time, the media and the left in general tosses any claim that they’ve flip-flopped down the Memory Hole – a way of removing any evidence pointing to reality in spite of their narrative, as if they were playing out scenes from George Orwell’s 1984.
When election time rolls around, they employ the same behavior but extend it to the Democratic Party candidates. Look at the election in Georgia. As Jeff Charles explained, “the activist media refuse to cover the numerous controversies surrounding Georgia Senate candidate Pastor Raphael Warnock.”
This is standard fare for Democrats. Take Biden, for example. The media manipulators have done everything in their power to ignore his obvious cognitive decline, problematic history with women and children, questionable dealings with foreign nations, and anything remotely having to do with Hunter Biden until it simply disappears.
And you can bet your bottom dollar that they’ll spend the next four years kissing Biden’s own bottom rather than reporting on anything remotely controversial about him. Trump? If he even glances in the wrong direction, it’s a media-wide exposé.
But these leftist “news” outlets are paying the price for so obviously embracing their role as propaganda arm of the Democratic Party. In August, Gallup released the results of a poll showing that 86% of Americans believe the media is biased. What’s more, even some of the journalists themselves are walking away. These leftists have lobbed potshots at conservatives and other lovers of liberty relentlessly for several years, but in the end, they may have harmed nothing so much as their own reputations. Will they go on shilling for Biden and his buddies? Of course, but will anyone actually listen?
An Armed Society …
It looks like fairly smooth sailing to the White House from here for Joe Biden, and that means that the “Plan to End Our Gun Violence Epidemic” released by his campaign a while back is starting to look a lot more like official policy – especially after the ATF followed up a meeting between its director and Biden with a raid on an 80% lower receiver manufacturer.
Is another federal assault weapon ban on the horizon? If Joe and his pals have their way, of course. But yet again, there’s a spark of hope for freedom in the future. We saw a massive increase in gun sales in 2020. Leesa K. Donner wrote in March – just three months into that otherwise damnable year – that NICS stats showed half a million more background checks in January 2020 than January 2019. February saw an increase of nearly 750,000 over the past February. As for the rest of the year, with every additional lockdown measure, riot, and suspiciously anti-2A action by the government, gun parts and ammunition got harder to find and more expensive when they could be found online.
The Democrats may attempt to disarm the populace during this administration – but they’ll have their work cut out for them.
All Hope Is Not Lost
Will the globalist regime undo all the progress gained under Trump? It seems inevitable they will try – and it often seems impossible to deny the ever-forward march toward a single world government. But, to conclude this roundup, let us look across the pond to a spark of liberty that finally flared to life against all odds and all efforts by the establishment. It took years of struggle and perseverance, but Brexit has finally come to fruition.
As of 11 p.m. GMT New Year’s Eve, Britain became a nation unchained from the bureaucracy of the E.U. and freed once again to engage with the world on its own two feet. That was midnight in Brussels, one final concession by the U.K., though few Brexiteers were likely to complain about getting out an hour early. In fact, as our own Brit, Mark Angelides, said of his New Year’s Eve plans the day prior: “I will be celebrating one hour earlier than everyone else tomorrow because the E.U. is finally over for Britain at 11 p.m.”
So for those who fear the dystopian future of tyranny in America, take heart: This storm will pass – we just have to stay afloat long enough to right the ship and ride it out.
