Russia Collusion Hoax: Yes, Americans STILL Deserve the Truth

For two years, the search for the truth was lauded by Democrats and the leftist media. Now, not so much.

The Trump-Russia collusion hoax is being reverse-engineered by multiple ongoing Department of Justice investigations, much to the growing panic of those who invented and perpetuated it. Though the wheels are turning slowly, several significant developments in this whole sordid affair will soon be revealed. What is driving the panic among President Donald Trump’s opponents? Why should there not be a postmortem of the Russian conspiracy theory? More to the point, perhaps: Why did the FBI not handle the matter to begin with in a more effective and expedient way?

A lot going on behind the scenes largely flies under the radar. That may be intentional or just a lack of will on the part of the establishment media to follow the many threads of this story. The Justice Department’s inspector general, Michael Horowitz, may well have completed his report on the matter of an improperly obtained Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant for Trump campaign associate Carter Page.

That report, according to some media sources, may be already under review and its release likely to come within weeks, before the end of June 2019, for sure. It should be remembered that Page has never been charged with any crime relating to alleged coordination with Russian officials in 2016.

Converging Investigations

John Durham

John Huber, a U.S. attorney in Utah, was appointed by former Attorney General Jeff Sessions to investigate aspects of the FBI’s counterintelligence operation, though it is not clear what progress he has made or when he will conclude his probe. Current AG William Barr brought in another federal prosecutor, John Durham, to work on the matter. Barr also has previously confirmed multiple ongoing investigations into improper contacts between the media and the FBI.

Durham, it turns out, was already deeply involved in the efforts to piece together the origins of the Russia collusion story. An attorney for former FBI lawyer James Baker confirmed, at a congressional hearing in October 2018, that Durham was investigating his client over media leaks.

Durham’s new DOJ assignment may be viewed as similar to a special counsel’s, even though the latter operates under a different set of rules. Durham may be the man tasked with bringing together the findings of Horowitz, Huber, and the other DOJ investigations to form the basis of a major inquiry – this one with full prosecutorial and subpoena powers, including the ability to impanel grand juries.

Lastly, the president himself has pledged to declassify the communications and other records underpinning the FBI operation that targeted his campaign. This declassification could take place at any time.

The Growing Panic

This, of course, all goes a long way toward explaining the increasing hysteria among Democrats, implicated former government officials, and leftist shills in the media. Is it pure coincidence that former CIA Director John Brennan will attend a private meeting with Democratic lawmakers this week? The meeting is billed as a briefing on Iran, but Brennan is now a private citizen. Why is he – and not the current CIA director – meeting privately with Democrats to fill them in on the Iranian situation? Brennan, a vocal Trump-hater, is being sucked into the murky waters of the Russia-collusion swamp. The CIA has become one of the subjects of Barr’s dive into the Russia investigation, and Brennan may yet find himself in hot water.

Former CIA Director John Brennan

The media freak-out continues to grow. The former FBI assistant director for counterintelligence, Frank Figliuzzi, recently penned a rabidly partisan opinion piece for NBC News’ online editorial publication Think. Figliuzzi, now an MSNBC analyst, represents everything that went wrong at the FBI. Almost every sentence of his childish article is spiked with snarky invective against the president and the AG. He argues that the investigation targeting the FBI’s conduct is reckless, even dangerous, though he offers no reasonable or rational argument to back up this accusation. The entire Figliuzzi piece is nothing more than the transcription of a politically motivated temper tantrum.

The media, of course, are complicit in the seditious conspiracy against Trump. They realize that, when a reckoning comes, they will have to answer a number of very inconvenient questions, such as why they so enthusiastically colluded with the intelligence community to sell a phony conspiracy theory to the nation for more than two years without once pausing to consider the political motivations behind those government officials who set it all in motion.

Vast Political Hoax But No Media Curiosity?

Some perspective here: America’s premier intelligence agencies coordinated to create an investigation of a presidential candidate and his associates. The center of that investigation – which led to surveillance of Trump campaign personnel and their manipulation by undercover FBI and CIA informants – was largely based upon opposition research provided by a former foreign spy and paid for by the president’s election opponent.

The aforementioned spy, Christopher Steele; the FBI officials who conducted the investigation; and the employees of the research company Fusion GPS who obtained and disseminated that opposition research all had one thing in common: They despised Trump and did not want him to become president.

The FBI operation morphs into a special counsel investigation that goes on for almost two years before finally concluding that there was no proof of coordination or cooperation between the Russians and anybody connected to Trump’s campaign.

Given that backdrop, one would have thought that inquisitive journalists would now be unable to resist uncovering why such a vast operation, conducted exclusively by the president’s opponents, turned up no corroboration of the suspicions that triggered the entire affair. Instead, these journalists, themselves highly partisan, are outraged that the attorney general is making the very same inquiries that they should have been making, were they true to their profession.

FBI Missteps or Deliberate Strategy?

The fact that the decision, within the FBI but perhaps with some prompting by senior DOJ and maybe even CIA officials, to open the counterintelligence operation during a presidential campaign was in itself, an act of recklessness. More so, it was an act of political sabotage. Had the FBI’s fears about Russian coordination with Trump campaign associates been credible, the candidate should have received a defensive briefing.

Former FBI Director James Comey, along with a team of agents and/or Bureau attorneys, should have spoken directly with Trump, laying out their evidence, explaining the reasons for their suspicions, and even naming those individuals about whom they had concerns – perhaps advising candidate Trump to sever his ties to these people. Such a course of action would have killed the attempted Russian influencing of events right there.

The FBI could have then waited until after the election to launch a full-scale investigation into the individuals it had suspected of improper contacts with the Russians. The fact that the Bureau’s leadership decided not to follow this course strongly indicates two things: that they had no credible evidence to present to Trump and that they did not want to allow the future president to escape the cloud of suspicion they were creating.

The panic now on full display was inevitable, of course. The conspirators within the intelligence community and the media, along with their co-conspirators at the DOJ and Fusion GPS, all assumed Hillary Clinton would become president, and the entire web of lies and subterfuge would be forever buried under layers of classification – if not erased entirely from existence.

With Trump in the White House, the plotters pinned their hopes on the special counsel investigation, which would surely justify all the allegations they had leveled against the president. When that, too, failed to come to pass, they suddenly decide that any further efforts to uncover the truth represent a threat to our democracy and to the very lines of demarcation of executive authority. But the American people did deserve to know the truth behind the Russian collusion story – as Democrats and former intelligence officials have been saying for the past two years. The American people still deserve to know the truth. How strange it is that those who created and perpetuated this mess no longer want that truth revealed.
