The Republican National Convention is next week, and the top priority for the party is illegal immigration. The GOP’s platform has a 20-point list* of promises with “seal the border, and stop the migrant invasion” as number one and “carry out the largest deportation operation in American history” as number two. While there are many other priorities – such as tax cuts, preventing another world war, making America dominant in energy, defending the Constitution, and ending inflation – stopping illegal border crossings is the dominant goal.
Number ten on the list is: “Stop the migrant crime epidemic, demolish the foreign drug cartels, crush gang violence, and lock up offenders.” Several high-profile crimes against women that were allegedly committed by illegal migrants – prominent examples include Laken Riley of Georgia, Rachel Morin, the mother of five from Maryland, or the 12-year-old girl from Texas – have likely inspired this urgency.
Illegal Immigration – Not a Victimless Crime
Former President Donald Trump invited Morin’s family, who will be attending the convention to speak in her memory and to request better policies to protect others from crimes resulting from illegal immigration. Morin’s alleged assailant, Salvadoran national Victor Antonio Martinez-Hernandez, was able to cross into the US four times in a year, three of those instances within just two months. As Liberty Nation News reported, Hernandez was also wanted for murdering a woman in El Salvador just days before he first crossed into the US. He is also accused of assaulting a nine-year-old girl and her mother in Los Angeles.
Josh Morin, one of Rachel’s brothers, told The Baltimore Sun: “There are hundreds, if not thousands, of Rachels all over America, so we have to do our part to hopefully make change. This is 100% political because it was politics that created this problem, and it is politics that are going to fix it.”
Trump campaign senior advisor Danielle Alvarez told the Daily Caller News Foundation: “Joe Biden has opened our southern border to roughly 20 million illegal immigrants, including hundreds of terror suspects and violent criminals who have wreaked havoc on communities across the country.” She added:
“We are honored that Rachel Morin’s loved ones will address the nation at our Republican National Convention and give Rachel’s story the respect and attention it deserves, as it shows all Americans why we need President Trump to secure our border, deport illegal immigrants who commit crimes against innocent citizens, and make America safe again.”
Advocates for illegal immigration say terms such as “invasion” and “mass deportation” are dangerous. “We see a four-alarm fire for our country when the GOP’s official platform formalizes xenophobia and recklessly spreads misinformation and fear,” said Kica Matos, president of the NILC Immigrant Justice Fund.
Illegal immigration remains a hot button topic to Americans, though, and will be a significant focus at the convention. According to the document released by the RNC earlier this week:
“Republicans will restore every Border Policy of the Trump administration and halt all releases of Illegal Aliens into the interior. We will complete the Border Wall, shift massive portions of Federal Law Enforcement to Immigration Enforcement, and use advanced technology to monitor and secure the Border.”
What will next week bring us in Open Borders America?
