While the mainstream media has been focused on important issues such as whether paying money to a porn star is a campaign contribution or not, they are ignoring incidents that threaten freedom around the world. One such story is the increasingly disturbing trend of state-sponsored racial hatred in South Africa, which some are predicting will result in the genocide of the white Afrikaners.
The background for the troubling development is that the South African government has announced that it intends to expropriate the land from the white farmers and redistribute it to blacks, much like former President Robert Mugabe did in Zimbabwe. The ruling ANC party has said that it wishes to change the constitution so that they can expropriate the farmland without compensation.
Historical Background
When Apartheid ended, the Afrikaners were buoyed by the fact that the former terrorist Nelson Mandela had abandoned his previously violent methods and sought interracial healing. To his everlasting credit Mandela managed to create a good starting point for peace.
But it was not to last. Mandela never managed to purge the toxic ethnonationalist and communist elements of his party, and when he stepped down, they started to grow in power.
The ANC combined democratic socialism with the corruption that often follows in its wake. The result was the same as everywhere else socialism has been tried: economic decline, increased violence, and poverty. As the failure of ANC’s socialism has become ever more apparent to the population, its leaders have been eager to find a scapegoat they could blame to hide their incompetence and corruption. That is, white privilege.
As the South African economy has continued to decline, the language used against whites has become increasingly hateful and venomous, and white farmers in South Africa are now in mortal danger. Every week a new farmer family is slaughtered by home invaders, as documented by independent journalist Lauren Southern in her documentary Farmlands.
Trump Responds
After President Donald Trump tweeted that he was prioritizing the grave situation, leader of the South African Marxist organization Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema, called Trump a pathological liar and warned against interfering in the nation’s politics.
I have asked Secretary of State @SecPompeo to closely study the South Africa land and farm seizures and expropriations and the large scale killing of farmers. “South African Government is now seizing land from white farmers.” @TuckerCarlson @FoxNews
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 23, 2018
#EFFMediaBriefing Malema: Be that as it may, we must put it on record, unequivocally, that Donald “the pathological liar” Trump, we are not scared of you and your USA or Western imperialist forces.

International Response
The international media, including most American outlets, has been unusually quiet about the disaster that is unfolding in South Africa, which demonstrates the hollowness of their concern for racial minorities. Here is a case where toxic ethnonationalism and racism is creating a precarious situation for an ethnic minority, and according to the progressive creed they should be highly concerned.
The only problem is that the perpetrators and victims are the wrong race. They don’t fit the narrative of the left, and so there is silence.
Failed Socialism
First and foremost, South Africa is yet another example of a failed democratic socialist state, and if any lessons should be drawn from it, the most important is that socialism escalates any dormant ethnic conflicts.
Second, the disaster provides both those who warn about toxic ethnonationalism and open borders with ammunition for their viewpoints. Those who argue for greater homogeneity will say that one should be very careful about having multiple cultures that are too different living together in the same area because it leads to violent identity politics and destabilizes society. South Africa provides a chilling example.
