Media Push Fake News on Trump and Gun Laws

by | Feb 17, 2018 | Ignored by MSM

In the wake of Florida’s deadly school shooting, fingers once again point to President Trump and the Republican Congress as the masterminds behind a mentally ill person’s premeditated mass murder.  The insurgence of the blame for conservative policies and politicians dominated the social media platforms with most ignorantly blathering about and quoting Obama-era policy that Trump rescinded in 2017.

Erroneous Rules

The media response was immediate: a veritable flapping of wings and squawking that it was Trump’s fault that the murderer, Nikolas Cruz, 19, who had been under the watch of both local law enforcement and the FBI, decided to enact his brand of crazy on innocent children.  Why?  Because of this erroneous rule as laid out in the Obama White House archives, that Trump wisely overturned:

“The reporting that SSA, in consultation with the Department of Justice, is expected to require will cover appropriate records of the approximately 75,000 people each year who have a documented mental health issue, receive disability benefits, and are unable to manage those benefits because of their mental impairment, or who have been found by a state or federal court to be legally incompetent.  The rulemaking will also provide a mechanism for people to seek relief from the federal prohibition on possessing a firearm for reasons related to mental health.”

Or, in short, if you aren’t a master of handling your own finances, you are mentally ill, and you will be unable to own a firearm.  Oh, and also, the federal government was happily violating the 4th Amendment of millions of Americans as they passed along illegally seized information from the Social Security Administration based on the use of a fiduciary to assist with government paperwork.

ACLU and NRA in Agreement

But the left will plant leading headlines, their sycophantic followers will forego reading the article and spout like a fountain the headline instead, and disinformation is firmly rooted in this mythical ideology.

If proof is indeed needed for the liberal media, politicians, and their acolytes, how often does the ACLU agree with the NRA and conservative lawmakers:

“We oppose this rule because it advances and reinforces the harmful stereotype that people with mental disabilities, a vast and diverse group of citizens, are violent. There is no data to support a connection between the need for a representative payee to manage one’s Social Security disability benefits and a propensity toward gun violence… the rule automatically conflates one disability-related characteristic, that is, difficulty managing money, with the inability to safely possess a firearm.

They go on to state that “Representative Payees” are appointed not only in cases of a lack of mental capacity but also for a number of other reasons including for those who are “legally competent.”

Salacious Headlines

And if the ACLU isn’t an odd bedfellow in this instance, check out the same support of the President’s repeal of the Obama order from ADAPT, American Association of People with DisabilitiesAssociation of Mature American Citizens, and dozens of others, who rallied against their beloved President’s Executive Order overreach in this instance.

The shocking events at the hands of one mentally unstable, premeditative murderer, was not enabled by the annulling of an Obama-era policy designed to punish law abiding citizens.  If we are to believe salacious headlines, without bothering to take a much-needed deep dive into the facts surrounding our government’s actions, we are slaves to the forces of false narrative propaganda perpetrated by the liberal media.  For goodness sakes, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, already—in this case, the truth.
