After social media outrage, Hyatt Hotels slammed CPAC for designing their stage as the Odal rune, which some Nazi officers used to signify their rank. Is the CPAC secretly displaying Nazi symbols, or are radical leftists hallucinating during rage trips?
The Odal Rune
Before Norse people adopted the Latin alphabet, they used their own letters – symbols made of straight lines that could easily be chiseled into rock. Today, these runes are part of the Norse heritage of Scandinavian and Germanic people. The Odal rune corresponds to the Latin letter “o.”
The Norse gods of Tyr (Tiwaz), Odin (Wotan), Thor, and Frey gave name to four of our weekdays: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Runes still linger as symbols in pop culture. In 2018, the Norwegian Olympic team used sweaters bearing a symbol resembling the Tyr rune. Just like CPAC, they too were accused of using a Nazi symbol. It appears that leftists are unusually intolerant of Nordic culture.
Amazon and Volkswagen
Almost at the same time that the outrage mob descended on CPAC, Amazon was also targeted for having a logo that resembled Hitler’s mustache. In response to the critique, Amazon quietly altered its logo to prevent confusing the sensitive eyes of the ideologically possessed, who see Hitler everywhere.
What will the mob do when they discover an actual German company, started by the Nazi organization German Labor Front in 1937, that uses a logo strongly inspired by the Odal rune, namely Volkswagen?
Rock’n’roll
Strangely, leftists of the 1960s loved Volkswagen’s iconic car, the Beetle. They also adopted the peace symbol, which looks like an upside-down z-rune. Somehow, they got away with it without being labeled as Nazis.
The rock group Kiss was not so lucky. The two “s” symbols in their logo look like two sig-runes. It was also used as a symbol by Nazi SS officers. For this reason, the New York glam rock group has been accused of being crypto-Nazis many times during their career, even though the two founders are Jewish.
Milk is not Okay
Just for fun, the internet trolls of 4-chan decided to spread a rumor that milk is a secret white supremacy symbol and that the “okay” sign with three fingers raised stands for “white power.”
The radical left took the bait and started canceling people who drank milk or used that particular hand symbol. In one case, a Hispanic trucker lost his job because he allegedly made the hand sign while driving.
One-Drop Rule
During the Jim Crow era, the Democrats in the South created the one-drop rule of racial purity. A single distant black ancestor was sufficient to be classified as black and be subject to harsh racial discrimination.
Modern leftists have continued this tradition. If a Nazi or racist has used a common symbol even once, it takes on magic properties and is forever tainted as evil. This modern one-drop rule also applies to relationships. If you have a Facebook friend who is deemed deplorable or if one of your posts was ever liked by the wrong person, you are tainted forever.
Apophenia
Psychologists have a term for this form of hallucination. It is called apophenia, and Merriam-Webster defines it as “the tendency to perceive a connection or meaningful pattern between unrelated or random things.” Psychologists use it to explain the dynamics of conspiracy theories. In the olden days, it used to be called demonic possession.
People who succumb to this pathology are not psychologically healthy. Rather than evidence of a logos of hate, the recent spat over CPAC’s stage design may be a sign of hallucination. Time to call the shrink?
