Former Vice President Joe Biden is not making the news again: At least not the cable nor mainstream outlets. The No Malarkey campaign has weathered 22 declared and mentally healthy candidates. It has endured back-talking voters on whistle-stop primary tours – the disrespectful punks – a continual struggle with what seems to be dementia, and a myriad of mishaps, swept under the rug to protect the presumptive Democratic nominee for president.
But a new allegation is swirling about the clumsy Mr. Biden, and perhaps this is one that begs a little objective media coverage. If the #MeToo movement has any credibility, then the accuser, Tara Reade, must be taken seriously. It should be noted that Reade’s story is backed up by others who claim to recall the time in question, indicating that her allegations may have merit.
Have You Heard the One About Joe …?
Reade was a staff assistant to Biden in 1993 and was told to deliver to him his athletic bag. She did and found herself alone with the senator. Reade recalls that he called her by her first name – which is not all that uncommon for a small senate staff, but she was new, and it stuck in her mind. Then suddenly, Reade claims: “There was no exchange really. He just had me up against the wall.” A very disturbing accusation follows. The senator “began kissing her without her permission, pushed her against a wall, reached under her skirt, and penetrated her with his fingers,” as Reason magazine’s Robby Soave wrote, describing Reade’s account of the assault.
According to Reade, Biden then told her: “You’re okay, you’re fine. You’re okay, you’re fine,” and casually went back to the business at hand.
The staffer sought help from the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund this year but was shown the door – citing a 501 c 3 status. Yet, on its website, the organization claims: “The TIME’S UP Legal Defense Fund supports the brave individuals who have come forward, at great risk to themselves, to seek the justice they deserve and to protect others from similar behavior. This Fund helps workers connect with lawyers and bring cases of workplace sexual harassment and related retaliation — regardless of industry, rank or role.”
Reade somehow didn’t make the cut. And if you look closely, you will understand why. The public and media relations firm on retainer by Time’s Up is SKDKnickerboker, headed by Anita Dunn – once an advisor in the Obama administration and media guru for Joe Biden’s 2020 campaign. Miss Reade will not find that “we believe you” in that organization.
Facing the rebuke, Reade reached out to two female Democratic presidential candidates, Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Kamala Harris (D-CA), only to be told to contact her own congressional representatives. Remember when Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) helped create a media blitz against the Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh?
The Supreme Circus
As news came out that President Donald Trump’s second nominee for the Supreme Court justice was Brett Kavanaugh, one woman was paraded by the media and Democrats for all to see as “she must be believed.” Dr. Christine Blasey Ford brought forth an unverifiable accusation of sexual misconduct while in high school, pointing the finger at the nominee. For weeks, the media salivated over a high school beer-drinking party with a zeal not equaled. The glaring problem was a lack of facts, a lack of witnesses agreeing with Ford, and the accuser’s own account disintegration in front of the nation.
Warren blathered about Ford’s testimony, “She’s a hero – brave, compelling, credible.” But can’t be bothered with Reade. Harris tweeted, “Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is a true profile in courage.” But she, too, has no time for Reade.
Because Joe Biden is a Democrat? It appears the circling of the wagons – a few months from a convention and a presidential election – has nothing to do with the bravery of Reade deciding to tell her “truth,” as all the progressives claim, but is more in line with hiding the facts from the electorate.
The hapless, touchy-feely, hair-sniffing Biden said, during the Kavanaugh debacle: “For a woman to come forward in the glaring lights of focus, nationally, you’ve got to start off with the presumption that at least the essence of what she’s talking about is real.”
From the guy who swims naked in front of his female service detail – yeah, they find it unnerving – he should maybe zip it when it comes to women’s issues.
The Man Who Would be King
Joe Biden has declared his intention to be president. He also claimed to be running for the Senate. Hell, next, he may invite us to his coronation as king of the colonies. One would think the old guy had had enough of the exhausting campaign schedule and would simply bow out, admitting: “I’m old, tired, and losing my mind.” But he soldiers on as aides, family, and the DNC cover his gaffes and a hair-trigger temper. To what end, nobody really knows.
What we do know is that the media is preoccupied with scaring the bejeezus out of America over COVID-19 and not reporting that the Democratic Party’s presumptive nominee has a seemingly credible accuser trying to tell her story, only to be ignored. Reade once had a dream: “I wanted to be a senator; I didn’t want to sleep with one.”
Is anyone going to give a whit about Tara Reade? Or are we going to cover up a news story that is as important, if not more important, than any previous sexual assault claim? Is there really that little credibility left in the media?
