Americans on both sides of the ever-widening political chasm waited to exhale as investigators sought to establish the identity and possible motive of the suspect in Monday’s mass shooting at a Boulder, CO grocery store. When it turned out that said suspect had a Middle Eastern name – Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa – leftists were likely disappointed that their hopes of pointing to so-called white supremacist ideology as the real culprit in the massacre were dashed.
That didn’t stop Rep. Ilhan Omar, however. The Minnesota Democrat, who has a dangerous obsession with blaming all of the world’s ills on white, American Christians, posted a bizarre, deeply offensive, and outrageously dishonest observation on Twitter. Omar wrote on Tuesday afternoon:
“The shooter’s race or ethnicity seems front and center when they aren’t white. Otherwise, it’s just a mentally ill young man having a bad day. Narratives drive our responses to awful crimes committed against innocent people, pay attention to these responses and who is targeted.”
Weaponizing Murder for Political Advantage
After every high-profile homicide in America today – and even more so after mass casualty shootings – it’s the same old, sick, and sad story. Democrat politicians and a great many people on the left immediately look for a way to spin the tragedy to their political advantage. Make no mistake; this is not just cynical – it is a sickness. It is a symptom of moral corruption that borders on sociopathic. No genuine sympathy is shown for the victims or the loved ones of those victims. The dead are merely pawns in a game of political point-scoring.
If the killer is white, then we are urged to confront and vanquish the threat of racism – which, allegedly, is a problem exclusive to whites. If the murderer is not white, then it is time to talk about our apparent gun violence epidemic. If the gunman is Muslim – or, at least, has a name that indicates Muslim heritage – then we are Islamophobic for even mentioning that name. At least, this is what Omar appears to be saying.
There are different degrees of deception. Some people will attempt to blame others for problems of their own making. Others will use half-truths to create a false impression – the legacy media does this on an almost hourly basis. The Somali-born “squad” member who represents Minnesota’s fifth congressional district does not dabble in such ruses, though; she goes straight to saying the exact opposite of what is true.
One would have thought that a politician who has inexplicably survived as many scandals as Omar would keep something of a low profile. Yet, with shameless dishonesty, she took a slice of reality and turned it inside out. Brent Scher, executive editor at The Washington Free Beacon, may have best nailed Omar’s blatant misrepresentation of how such events are characterized. “This shooter’s race and ethnicity was front and center yesterday when we didn’t even know what it was and just assumed it was white,” he wrote in response to the congresswoman’s tweet.
So it is with every shooting today: Before any of the details are known, leftists will very often assume the shooter is white, racist, a right-wing extremist, a Trump supporter, or all of those things. If the shooter turns out to be non-white or a leftist – or perhaps just someone who was not motivated by racial or political bias at all – then the incident is no longer worthy of discussion – or the focus becomes gun violence. It is the ultimate objectification of murder victims, and there will be no healing and no unity in America until the extremists who peddle it at every opportunity – like Omar – are held to account.
