There can be little doubt, at this stage, that Joe Biden isn’t telling the truth when he claims to have had no knowledge of, or involvement in, his son’s dubious overseas financial ventures. The latest email revelation – official records from his eight years as vice president – have eliminated whatever uncertainty there may have been concerning Hunter Biden’s close ties to the Obama White House. More than 1,000 have surfaced, revealing extensive connections between the then-VP’s office and Hunter Biden’s company, Rosemont Seneca Partners.
America First Legal obtained the copies from the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) through a public records request and subsequent lawsuit. These Biden emails show that Hunter was involved in the planning of several official White House events, including state dinners and visits by foreign government officials, who came from France, Britain, Germany, Turkey, and China, among other countries. Hunter Biden himself attended dinners and luncheons laid on for the visiting VIPs.
The Biden White House has blocked the release of at least 200 emails that it says would “disclose confidential advice” provided to Joe Biden by his advisers. But one must wonder – what more might they reveal about Joe’s involvement in Hunter’s business?
New Biden Emails Deepen the Scandal
The allegations the senior Biden now faces from congressional Republicans and foundations such as America First Legal – other than having potentially taken at least one bribe – are that he played a role in his son’s influence-peddling and selling of access to the Obama White House. These latest Biden emails appear to corroborate those allegations, as favors were requested by Hunter Biden on behalf of various business associates and then granted by the vice president’s office.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) is pressing NARA for more unredacted emails and other records from Joe Biden’s time as vice president. In a letter to the National Archives, Comer cited a 2015 communication between the VP’s office and Eric Schwerin. With close ties to the Biden family – and a man Joe Biden knows well – Schwerin is, among other things, a former lobbyist and current Democratic Party donor. In his letter to NARA, Comer wrote, in part:
“[O]n December 4, 2015, at 10:45 a.m. – in an email with the subject of ‘Quotes’ – Eric Schwerin (a longtime Biden family business associate) wrote to Kate Bedingfield in the Office of the Vice President providing quotes the White House should use in response to media outreach regarding Hunter Biden’s role in Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company. Later that day — at 2:30 p.m. — Ms. Bedingfield responded to Mr. Schwerin saying, ‘VP signed off on this.’”
Dec. 4 was the same day that Hunter Biden, along with the owner and another senior executive of Burisma Holdings, placed a conference call to Joe Biden from Dubai. The subject was the investigation of Burisma by Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin. Just days after the call, Biden went to Ukraine and demanded that Shokin be dismissed from his position. There was no need for a document release to prove that – Joe Biden bragged about having Shokin fired publicly. But what else might the remaining emails reveal?
