Imagine what you would think as a conservative or libertarian if LibertyNation.com ran a story that Donald Trump definitely colluded with Russians to rig the 2016 presidential election. You would rightfully be startled.
Well, that is the mirror image of what actually happened below the radar in recent days. The Nation, America’s oldest weekly magazine and a consistent voice on the far left of the legitimate political spectrum, concluded after an exhaustive independent investigation that the hack of the now-infamous Democratic National Committee server – an event which has gone largely unquestioned – was in fact not a hack at all. Their research showed it to be an inside job – a leak from inside the DNC itself.
Talk about an inconvenient truth. And to no one’s surprise, this definitive conclusion by a leftist publication has gone all but unreported by the establishment media.

Conservative journalists could have conducted a similar investigation and reached a similar conclusion, but let’s be honest – it would not be taken seriously due to the embedded ideology of the journalist(s). But when this conclusion is reached by an entity with so much invested in hoping for the opposite (see the image to the right), it makes you sit up and pay attention. The Nation’s dénouement is based on an exhaustive study from many angles:
Forensic investigators, intelligence analysts, system designers, program architects, and computer scientists of long experience and strongly credentialed are now producing evidence disproving the official version of key events last year...There was no hack of the Democratic National Committee’s system on July 5 last year—not by the Russians, not by anyone else. Hard science now demonstrates it was a leak—a download executed locally with a memory key or a similarly portable data-storage device. In short, it was an inside job by someone with access to the DNC’s system.
But not only did this article discredit the notion of Russian hacking of the DNC server, it also impugned the actions of those who have been peddling this false narrative from the moment Donald Trump was elected:
Possibilities became allegations, and these became probabilities. Then the probabilities turned into certainties, and these evolved into what are now taken to be established truths…This was accomplished via the indefensibly corrupt manipulations of language repeated incessantly in our leading media…we are urged to accept the word of institutions and senior officials with long records of deception…
Indeed, the unrelentingly shameful performance of the establishment press in peddling a storyline of Trump as a traitor was not confined to accepting at face value the word of alphabet agencies whose entire livelihood is based on deception. The legacy media also backed up their false narrative by reporting consistently that “17 intelligence agencies” concluded with “a high degree of confidence” that Russia hacked the DNC server when we now know that only three such agencies reached that conclusion. Not to mention that such “high degree of confidence” is an implicit admission that they do not have actual proof to back up their conclusion, nor for their repeated implications that Trump was colluding with Russia.
But this independent investigative team does have proof for their conclusion. It is worth reading the lengthy article for details. Here is the bottom line:
Forensic investigations of documents made public two weeks prior to the July 5 leak by the person or entity known as Guccifer 2.0 show that they were fraudulent: Before Guccifer posted them they were adulterated by cutting and pasting them into a blank template that had Russian as its default language. Guccifer took responsibility on June 15 for an intrusion the DNC reported on June 14 and professed to be a WikiLeaks source—claims essential to the official narrative implicating Russia in what was soon cast as an extensive hacking operation. To put the point simply, forensic science now devastates this narrative.
So maybe now you know why the establishment media has quietly stopped reporting on this Russian hacking/collusion story in recent days. And, why wouldn’t they? This independent investigation represents nothing short of a ringing indictment of them. They have breathlessly trumpeted this story for months now, caring not one whit that it devastated the political equilibrium of a nation already severely divided by Trump’s election. Caring not (actually rejoicing) that it led to the appointment of a special counsel with an ever-widening investigative dragnet, and caring not that the narrative they have so faithfully advanced has always been based on wild conspiracy theories, idle speculation and their undeniable hatred for the 45th President.

The president’s ability to conduct foreign policy, notably but not only with regard to Russia, is now crippled…All sides agree that relations between the United States and Russia are now as fragile as they were during some of the Cold War’s worst moments. To suggest that military conflict between two nuclear powers inches ever closer can no longer be dismissed as hyperbole.
Even though they have now been unmasked, we can be confident that the leftist establishment and its handmaidens in the media will not accept responsibility, nor will they be held accountable, for forcing this dastardly lie down the throats of the American people.
