During a gathering in New York this week to mourn the loss of 32-year-old Heather Heyer, the left showed just how intolerant they really are. Heyer was killed last weekend in Charlottesville, reportedly by a white nationalist. Caleb Slater, a black American student at Ithaca College and president of the College Republicans, attended the vigil wearing a hat with the Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) logo. He was met with insults and violence. Slater said he wore the hat to “show that conservatives condemn the actions of the alt-right just as much as anyone else in our culture.” Apparently, wearing a conservative hat to a vigil is offensive, but wearing face masks is perfectly fine.
Antifa (Anti-Fascists) shouted at him to leave; that he wasn’t welcome:
One of the girls from Antifa, dressed in all black, began to shout me down and ask, “Are you with right wing media? Why do you have the fu**ing hat on? You’re with Young America’s Foundation?” I simply responded by informing them that I meant no harm and was peacefully assembling. She then proceeded to yell loudly, “We don’t want you here.”
These “anti-fascists” wore face masks and pushed Slater into a street (in an entirely fascist manner) where he could have been hit by traffic. Slater said he turned on his camera because he felt the tension rising and was concerned about his safety. “Antifa supporters surrounded me, like a pack of wolves,” he claimed. Someone yanked his hat off and tossed it aside. Others in the crowd started jerking on his camera, and at least one person, he said, began strangling him with the camera strap before they latched on to his button-up shirt, dragged him off Clinton Square, and tossed him into the street.
There is no pleasing the radical left unless you agree unequivocally with everything they say and do. As much as the left likes to claim the right has no tolerance, the exact opposite is true. Even though Slater told the group he was only trying to show unity after a tragedy; they refused to listen and carelessly endangered his life. Wearing the YAF hat might not have been a sage decision considering how quickly tempers flare, but this is America, and that was this man’s constitutional right.
It is becoming harder each day – for conservatives especially – to feel comfortable and safe with their beliefs. If you’re not on the left, beware. As one reader commented on the Dailywire article:
I’m far more afraid of being attacked by a deranged leftist for wearing a MAGA hat, ergo why I don’t even own a MAGA hat, than of being attacked by a white supremacist for not being white. I’d seriously love to wear a MAGA hat in public, but I don’t want to risk being attacked or ostracized because of it.
The left claims its agenda is just – that they seek equality for all. But how is this in any way equal when they are the first to cast stones, insults, and to throw young black students into the streets just for being a conservative and daring to show support at a vigil? Another Dailywire reader summed the radical left up well with this comment:
They are animals. Rabid, wild dogs. Keep your distance, and if you absolutely must engage them do so with caution, force, and video evidence. Be aware that you are not dealing with rational human beings but mindless drones programmed for nothing but violence.
So, there you have it, folks. Don’t leave the house without your camera – fully charged and ready to record – and stay alert. You never know when you may be wearing the wrong t-shirt to an event, or drive the wrong vehicle, and offend the hypersensitive left.
