Former-President Donald Trump announced his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida had been raided by the FBI Monday. Mr. Trump took to Truth Social, the social media platform he created after being banned from Twitter, to announce the intrusion.
While the former president didn’t explain what the bureau was looking for, he did imply their reasons were corrupt. “After working and cooperating with the relevant Government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate,” the former president stated. “It is prosecutorial misconduct, the weaponization of the Justice System, and an attack by Radical Left Democrats who desperately don’t want me to run for President in 2024, especially based on recent polls, and who will likewise do anything to stop Republicans and Conservatives in the upcoming Midterm Elections.” Mr. Trump compared the raid to a reverse Watergate, and said, “Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States.”
Fox News reports from multiple unnamed sources that the raid is related to classified materials the former president allegedly brought to Mar-a-Lago after his presidency ended, which would have been a violation of federal law. The sources explained that the National Archives and Records Administration referred the case to the DOJ, and that classified materials were found in 15 boxes at the private residence.
Mr. Trump was in New York at the time of the alleged operation, according to the Miami Herald, and the White House did not know of any FBI actions against the former president and were directing inquiries to the Justice Department.
