A prominent Washington newspaper and multiple other media sources reported that a California man armed with at least one weapon has been taken into custody near Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s Maryland home. The unidentified man was arrested by police after telling officers he wanted to kill the Supreme Court justice.
The reports say the man is in his mid-20s and had burglary tools in addition to the weapon. Further, early reports indicate that the man was angry about the leaked draft of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case.
Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell spoke on the Senate floor as the arrest was reported this afternoon. He said:
“This is exactly, exactly the kind of event that many feared that the terrible breach of the court’s rules and norms could fuel. This is exactly the kind of event that many worried the unhinged, reckless, apocalyptic rhetoric from prominent figures toward the court going back many months and especially in recent weeks could make more likely.”
According to a statement by Supreme Court spokeswoman Patricia McCabe, the man was arrested at 1:50 a.m. and transported to Montgomery County Police 2nd District.
