Nothing says “I care” more than a sitting president who visits Arizona but won’t give time, credence, or compassion to the US-Mexico border communities suffering from the worst national security crisis in more than a decade. But that is precisely what President Joe Biden relayed on the White House South Lawn before winging his way to Phoenix on Dec. 6. Or, in his words: “There are more important things going on.” Those “more important” things are the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company investing $12 billion to $40 billion in building another microchip facility.
But what’s rich is the estimated 500,000 apprehensions per month once Title 42 will be lifted on Dec. 21, which could result in the entry of 13 million illegal immigrants during Biden’s first term.
In fiscal year 2022 alone, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recorded 2.3 million arrests at the border – which far exceeds last year’s record of 1.7 million. And after an internal document was revealed earlier in the week showing that the actual number of illegal aliens released into the US interior was more than 18,000% higher than announced on the law enforcement agency’s website, one wonders just how complete those records are.
Ask anyone in a small border town lacking resources what is more important in their daily lives than illegal immigration, and the answer will be dead silence.
Biden Sees No Crisis
For two solid years, the Biden administration has claimed there is no crisis, followed by there is one, but VP Kamala Harris, America’s very own border czar, will get to the “root of the problem” by traveling everywhere but the actual border. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas insists he and his department are ready for the human onslaught once Title 42 is deactivated. He declared in front of the Senate Homeland Security Committee: “We are enhancing the consequences for unlawful entry. Especially with respect to individuals who seek to evade law enforcement, including removal, detention, and criminal prosecution when warranted.” Good luck, Mayorkas, as you have lost favor with Democrats and Republicans. As fall guys go, it appears Biden has installed an easy mark, as the secretary has been told by House Republicans to either resign or face investigation and possible impeachment.
Now, again, what “better things to do” did you have in mind?
Focus on the Booming Economy
It appears to most that the Swamp creatures’ echo chamber has no interest outside the bubble. Mayorkas and Czar Harris claim that the border is “secure.” And the message resonating from the White House is clear: It will not talk about anything but all those Biden successes. Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre parroted her boss: “I want to be very clear here. The president’s trip … is about the American manufacturing boom we’re seeing all across the country thanks to, again, his economic policies.”
That message does not resonate with the average American – whether in a border town or anywhere else in a nation crippled by inflation and poor policy decisions.
