Nancy Pelosi Adds GOP Rep. Kinzinger to January 6 Committee

Kinzinger will join fellow GOPer and Trump foe, Liz Cheney, on the select committee.

On July 25, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi revealed that she has appointed another Republican Trump critic, Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, to the select committee that will probe the events of January 6 in Washington, D.C. Kinzinger and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) are the only two Republicans, so far, to join seven Democrats on the committee.

Originally, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) had selected five Republicans to join the body. Pelosi refused to allow two of them, Reps. Jim Jordan of Ohio and Jim Banks of Indiana, to participate in the probe, prompting McCarthy to withdraw all five of his picks.

Indicating that she may appoint additional GOP representatives to the Jan. 6 committee, the speaker said “[Kinzinger] and other Republicans have expressed an interest to serve on the select committee and I wanted to appoint three of the members Leader McCarthy suggested but he withdrew their names.”
