The presumptive Democratic nominee for president has installed a high-speed-internet cable in his house and is ready to take on the world, campaign for the highest office in the land, and avoid looking like a bumbling, stumbling, short-tempered cad. Great: But has anyone seen this guy live and in person since the last audience-free debate?
The nation is facing an unprecedented time in history: a lockdown on commerce, frightened Americans donning facemasks and latex gloves to shop at the grocery store, and hospital administrators asking professional health care workers to ration supplies. President Donald Trump gives daily briefings to assure the American people that we will weather this storm.
This is the picture-perfect opportunity for the handsome former vice president to strut his stuff, discount the current commander in chief and his policies, and shine. He has six months and a few days to convince the country he’s our “No malarkey” guy. So, where’s Waldo?
Possibly taking a very long, much-needed nap. Or perhaps rehabbing his image with the spit and polish of cleverly edited videos he can simply phone in.
Maybe It’s Strategy
Is it the strategy of the Democratic National Committee to keep a man continually stepping in steaming piles — rambling about AR-14s, cussing out Middle American voters, and more — under control, in check, and out of radar range? Unless something overly dramatic takes place, this is still an election year, and the main face of the party, Mr. Biden, should be out front, displaying leadership, foresight, and strength instead of simply claiming he has found the World Wide Web.
Supporting suspicions, Liberty Nation’s Graham J. Noble wrote in LN‘s Monday Morning Briefing, which can help anyone navigate the pulse of the nation:
“Beginning March 23, presumed Democratic Party presidential candidate Joe Biden intends to host ‘shadow’ COVID-19 briefings. Presumably, the former vice president will be issuing directives and authorizing the deployment of National Guard units, blissfully unaware that the people who matter are paying no attention … Biden told reporters that he would be able to enact this master plan courtesy of ‘a new high-speed line into my home.’ The man who wants to be commander in chief has finally discovered the internet, it appears. That’s progress, at least.”
This is much more alarming than COVID-19.
I Have High-Speed Internet
To date, Mr. Biden has put out one video from his home studio to address anyone who will listen. The process has been fraught with technical glitches — in one instance you could hear a baby crying, and in another the teleprompter went a tad wonky. The other old white guy in the running, frumpy socialist Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT), is a master of the internet and has held roundtables and discussions that are widely aired and, importantly, shared. Biden is woefully behind the eight ball in the game of techno billiards.
The Democrats besides Sanders getting airtime seem to be those in the thick of the pandemic — Governors Gavin Newsom of California and Andrew Cuomo of New York — and they have seemingly forgotten the identity of their shared enemy and joined an unholy alliance with Trump, praising his actions. Maybe one of the two should run instead of Joe. Trump is a wartime president — and the generals who stand by him are going to emerge from this nightmare stronger, leaner, and meaner on the political front.
Mr. Biden might need to up his presence. Trump speaks directly every day to the American people. Joe has put out a video that won’t interrupt a nationwide address. And although the internet is wide-ranging, Joe’s fireside chats aren’t nearly able to compete with the president’s. To his credit, Trump has stopped calling everyone against him politically childish, although amusing, nicknames, including the former vice president.
All’s Well That Ends Well
Perhaps the former veep needed a break from the arduous campaign trail. The nation watched in 2016 as a younger, meaner, cleverer Hillary disintegrated from the pressure — both emotionally and physically. Is this a much-needed break for the candidate who arrived fashionably late to the party? Maybe he should take a spa month as the pandemic burns itself out and the economy collapses all around, only to emerge tan, rested, and ready? Or is it time for proof of life — like today — that Joe Biden is up to the task in front of him?
If the DNC keeps ghosting the man, by the time the convention rolls around Americans might be asking, “Joe who?”
