Beating up on Barron

There seems to be no limit to how low some people will go to attack the new President. It wasn’t surprising when they went after Melania Trump during the campaign. You may remember, a British blogger called her an “escort.”   A feisty and independent fashion model, Mrs. Trump promptly filed a defamation lawsuit. That British blogger beat a hasty retreat with a retraction and apology.

But now it is young Barron’s turn. This past Inaugural weekend a writer from SNL joined the cadre of those who have lost all civility with an attack on the Trumps’ ten-year-old son.

Katie Mary Rich, who writes comedy for SLN, tweeted the following, according to the Independent Journal Review:

Sweet Katie must have thought better of her cruel and callous comment and followed up by deleting the kind and loving [sic] message. But, of course, you can’t really take something like that back once you’ve put it out into the Twitter-verse.

Is there anyone else out there in cyber-world who finds this attack on an innocent young boy offensive?

Presidential children have always been the third-rail of politics – don’t touch them or you’ll get burned. Remember, for instance, the Facebook comment from GOP staffer Elizabeth Lauten who criticized Sasha and Malia Obama’s wardrobe:

Not exactly on par with calling young Barron a “shooter”, but not very cool either. At least Lauten had the decency to issue a public apology and resign her position.

In the case of Ms. Rich, she should be given two important messages from her employer. One – it’s not funny, and two – you’re fired.
