LN TV: The Democrat Obsession With Trump And Russia

From the moment that Donald J. Trump took the oath of office and assumed the United States presidency, the strategy of the Democratic Party conjures up an old proverb that involves a basket and several eggs. Neglecting the issues with which real people concern themselves, on a daily basis, Democrats in Congress and across the country decided to focus – almost exclusively – on obstructing and, ultimately, bringing down the president.

The vague theory that, somehow, the Russian government tilted the presidential election in Trump’s favor was a gift. It gave the Democratic candidate, Hillary Rodham Clinton, the cover she needed for losing the contest. Perhaps even more importantly, however, it also provided the left with a reason to declare Trump’s victory – and, by extension, his entire presidency – illegitimate.

As if these two benefits were not enough, the left also found a new crusade; an excuse to community-organize a whole new wave of protest and outrage, without having to address the hard facts of today’s American society. Why discuss jobs, the economy, and terrorism when one can simply argue that the president, himself, is occupying the White House under false pretenses?

The seeds of the great Russian collusion conspiracy were planted back in March of 2016. The Federal Bureau of Investigation first took an interest in a small number of electronic communications between a computer server located in Trump Tower and a large Russian bank. Since that time, the whole theory that Donald Trump and his campaign were conspiring with Russian President Vladimir Putin to steal the presidential election, has diverged and blossomed. To date, not one source has yielded a shred of evidence – let alone, firm proof – that such collusion has ever taken place.

The obsession with this conspiracy theory has been nourished, for the most part, by the establishment media. Many Democrats and Republicans in Congress have jumped on the bandwagon. The primary effect of the entire expedition has been distraction. Certainly, the president has, up to this point, achieved less than he had hoped, or promised. Nevertheless, his administration continues to roll back the regulations and other obstacles to economic growth put in place by the previous president. On the world stage, Trump has resurrected the image of the United States as a world leader. Illegal immigration is no longer the rampant, out of control monster that it has been for the past eight years. The spread of Islamist radicalism – while still a grave danger – is no longer unchecked.

All this progress, however, is still overshadowed – at least, here in the United States – by talk of investigations and hearings related to Russia’s ethereal role in creating the monster that is President Donald Trump.

Daily Caller contributor Justin Caruso highlighted the Democrats’ problem. In an article published Sunday, he drew attention to the fact that even some Democratic operatives realize that the obsession with Russia is creating a rift between the party and the concerns of their voters. “Eager to see the Democratic Party move beyond the Russia story and instead to fight for liberal policy goals, some on the left are publicly downplaying the Trump-Russia narrative,” Caruso writes. He draws on the observations of Democratic Party politicians outside the nation’s capital, as well as Democratic strategists and pundits, to emphasize the point further.

Just as many conservatives have long been aware that Republican Party is tone-deaf to their values and concerns, so are Democrat voters coming to realize that their party is no different.

To those who are more than casual observers, it is becoming clear that, regardless of the media hype, the Trump-Putin collusion story is slowly fading into that gray area, into which the public spares a quick glance, but nothing more. Absent any unexpected bombshells, the entire subject is becoming tedious, if not a complete farce. It is well established that numerous prominent figures from the intelligence community, as well as several senior members of the Democratic Party itself, have confirmed that no proof of collusion exists.

The most compelling component of the entire episode is how long the Democrats will continue to cling to their theory, and how much it will damage them in 2018.
