In a stunning demonstration of his true colors, president Obama dropped the word “Creator” when quoting the Declaration Independence at the Congressional Hispanic Congress this week. (Isn’t the existence of such a group racist?)
Here is the Obama quote:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, endowed with certain inalienable rights: life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”
Here is the Declaration of Independence, as penned in 1776:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
This is not just rhetorical semantics, it is foundational. Our rights must come from God because they cannot come from anywhere else. If “rights” come from government, they are not rights, they are privileges. Prisoners and slaves have privileges, but free people have absolute rights. Consider what John F. Kennedy said in his inaugural speech in 1960:
“And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe — the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.”
If we accept an atheistic evolutionary world view, abstract concepts like rights have no meaning. Can a zebra stop a lion from eating him by invoking his rights? It sounds absurd, but we are told by the wizards of smart that human beings are nothing more than evolved animals with thumbs, with no more significance than a chemical accident. Your “rights” under just a system exist only so far as somebody stronger than you says they don’t. (Think of the Nazis as lions and the Jews as zebras). A biblical world view teaches that we are image bearers of a holy and just God, and that his why we have inalienable rights.
The “mission statement” of America is simple – our rights come from our Creator God, and we the people give power to our civil governments to secure and protect those rights. As this model begins to crumble, the people must become subservient to the state – interestingly enough what are seeing happen exponentially in our nation. So again Mr. Obama, the question still stands. Who exactly endows us with our rights, if not God? If the president cannot answer this question the right way, he is not qualified to be dog catcher, let along president of the United States.
