And so I wasn”t sure that I should actually come tonight. Biden talked me into it. (Laughter.) He leaned over and he said, “Mr. President — (laughter) — this is no ordinary dinner. (Laughter.) This is a big (beep) meal.” (Applause.)
Always a class act, the President of the United States opened his remarks at the annual White House Correspondents Dinner with the above witticism. The WCHD has been an annual tradition for 90 years, and has been attended by Presidents from Calvin Coolidge to Ronald Reagan. Normally, the President mocks himself during the dinner, or is roasted by others.
However, Barack Obama has once again blazed a trail by adding vulgarity, plus using the event as another opportunity to take digs at his opponents. Republicans Scott Brown, Michael Steele, and Sarah Palin were among the targets of his barbs.
Some have been critical of the WHCD, citing that the President has become too cozy with the White House press corps. (pronounced “corpse” by the President). Now they can relax, Barry is just one of the boys, yucking it up. All that was missing was the cigarette and martini.
The foolish and wicked practice of profane cursing and swearing is a vice so mean and low, that every person of sense and character detests and despises it.
