Virginia governor Bob McDonnell reinstated Confederate History Month for April, in honor of Confederate Memorial Day. In typical kneejerk reaction, liberals and other clueless Americans are “outraged” – including President Obama. As if pretending that part of American history didn”t exist somehow makes unpleasant history not so unpleasant. Confederate heritage is a reality for millions of Americans – there were just as much if not more sins in the North than the South.
Mississippi governor Haley Barbour was one of few courageous politicians to come to McDonnell”s defense. His sentiment that the fake controversy “doesn”t amount to diddly” is spot on. Of course, McDonnell later threw the obligatory “slavery was evil” bone to the politically correct crowd. Yes we all thought slavery was great until the governor clarified it. If people became outraged about the real slavery that still exists in America, maybe we would have a shot at restoring the republic.
